Welcome to gdII
Graphic Design II is a full year elective course that meets every day in the middle school mac lab. In this course students will go beyond project completion and start to work as a true graphic designer. Students will develop the ability to generate concepts and layouts and present them in a professional manner.

Project1: Positive/Negative Space
One way to create a very eye catching and unique graphic is to use positive and negative space in an interesting way. Now that you learned the Pathfinder tool, this will help you create a pos/neg space design.

Project2: Double Exposure
Double exposure is a photography technique where two or more images are layered on top of one another. Before digital photography, this effect was created by capturing two “exposures” on top of each other on one frame of 35mm film.

Project 3: Bronx Zoo Promo
“Promotion” is a part of marketing and refers to raising customer awareness of a product, event, or brand, generating sales, and creating brand loyalty. There are different ways to promote a product in different areas of media. Promoters use internet advertisements, special events, endorsements, and newspapers to advertise or “promote” their event or product. Your design problem is to create 3 promotional items for the Bronx Zoo's newest exhibit.

For this project you are a designer and want to create your brand/trademark.

2. Add the logo to your portfolio.
3. Create a business card.
Use Google/Pinterest to find creative business card ideas!

Project 5: After Effects
Last year we used after effects to animate the shape layers of our WPAP project. This year we are going to focus on animating type and objects to create a motion graphic.
You are going to create an animation to showcase your logo/brand that you made last project. If you make youtube videos, this could become the intro.

Project 5: Children's Book Illustration
For this project you will choose a famous children's book to create a unique illustration for. You will be making a cover and an interior book page. For this project you cannot simply trace the existing characters, you must create your own. We will start by sketching designs, scanning them and then building the design in Illustrator. Check out the pinterest for inspiration.

Project 6: Design Process
Students are doing a collaborative project with Mr. Barnes' Project Lead the Way Civil Engineering and Architecture class. Each engineering group was assigned a few graphic designers from GDII to design a logo and brand identity for their architecture company. The graphic designers had to interview the clients and find out about their company and their needs. While conducting the interview, the graphic designers filled out a design brief.
